The sun wakes early

yawns its way across the sky

one lazy beam after another

a basket of hours set on the porch

lighting the first the floor

now the window

now the vase

Hours to to plant

to grow

to water weed and mow

Hours to watch buds turn to blooms

and bees resume their dance

Blossom to hive

Blossom to hive

Hours for hummingbirds to hover

and swallows dive

and children dig holes and climb trees

Jump in creeks

Chaise each other

Make shadows

Lay on the ground and watch the clouds

Find the elephant

the cupid

the country of Japan

The march of a million dreams

There is time the sun yawns

So much time
